Desafio Huarochiri 1 Race Details

Race Day: Sunday, June 14, 2020 (subject to change)

Just a few hours from Lima, lies a town of 2,500 habitants nestled within the Andean Mountains.  This town, Callahuanca, does not have many visitors or tourists who stop by, which allows racers to take in a full cultural experience of life in the Andes.

The Huarochiri series of races, consist of three independent races each year, in April, June and August in the region of Huarochiri, Peru.  Each race offers two distances for runners: distance Purix, meaning “Traveler”, and distance Chaski, meaning “Incan messenger” in the Andean language, Quechua.  Both male and female first place racers in the Chaski distance qualify to the Skyrunner World Series in October-November 2020 in Europe.

Purix 8K:

  • Elevation Range: 1435 – 1868msnm (4,708-6,128ft above sea level)

Chaski 22K:

  • 8:30 am Start Time
  • +1,400m (4,593ft) Elevation Gain
  • Race Time: 3hrs – 6 hrs max,
  • Elevation Range: 1,432 – 2,800msnm (4,698 - 9,186ft above sea level)
  • Race Map: Chaski (not exact, but similar)
  • 1st place female and male qualify to Skyrunner World Series
  • UTMB® 1 point

This race is beautiful, and an easy weekend trip from Lima.

Run in Peru will no longer be offering organized guided tours for this race in 2020.  We are happy to organize a personalized non-guided trip to runners who want to participate. Contact us for more details.
