Desafio Huarochiri 3 Race Details

Race Day: Sunday, August 16, 2020

The last of the three independent Huarochiri mountain races of 2020, the Desafio Huarochiri 3 is the highest altitude race in the series, and will start and end in San Mateo, Huarochiri, a town located at 3,170 m / 10,400ft above sea level,  nestled in the Andes Mountains.   It is highly recommended to stay two nights in the area to acclimate to the altitude before the race.

This race offers two distances for runners: distance Purix, meaning “Traveler”, and distance Chaski, meaning “Incan messenger” in the Andean language, Quechua.  Both male and female first place racers in the Chaski distance qualify to the Skyrunner World Series in October-November 2020 in Europe.

Purix 8K:

• 9:30 am Start Time
• +570m (1,870ft) cumulative Elevation Gain
• Race Time 1hr-3:30hrs
• Elevation Range: 3,162– 3,663m (10,374 – 12,017ft) above sea level

Chaski 25K:

• 9:00 am Start Time
• +1,630m (4,593ft) cumulative Elevation Gain
• Race Time: 3hrs – 6hrs
• Elevation Range: 3,161 – 4,062m (10,370 – 13,326ft) above sea level
• 1st place female and male qualify to Skyrunner World Series
• UTMB® 1 point

In the surrounding area, there is great sightseeing and trekking to the Rapagna lake, or Lake Neveria. The town is also near a few waterfalls and more greats sights to visit in the Andes.
