Race Adventure Package
Peru has an abundance of breathtaking races, of varying distances through terrains including the desert, the rainforest/ Amazon Jungle, and the notorious Andes Mountains. Each race brings a different challenge and experience, and no two races can even be compared. There is no need to be a professional runner to participate in races in Peru, it is just about going out and having a good time, viewing incredible scenery, and seeing Peru through a new perspective. Try your first 10k race and be a part of something greater than touring a country, or add to your UTMB points, racing 100k through the sacred valley of Cusco. Find the best race for you.
All race packages will start and end in Lima. All transportation is included (except flights in the case of Andes Race and Amazon Race Forest). The amount of days at the race site depends directly on how far away it is from Lima, and how high the altitude. These tours are 100% hassle free. I, Kelly Lynn, will get you to and from the race, be sure you are acclimated, well fed, and have visited all the cool sights to see around the race destination, be your translator if and when you need, and make your race trip an overall ideal experience. And of course, I too will run in the race too, because that is what I love to do! Let me get you familiarized with the varying types of races in Peru:
Mountain Races – The Andes Mountains are the second highest mountain range in the world and go through the entire country of Peru. The Mountain races can be split into subcategories by location:
- Ancash/Huaraz Region, famous for its Cordillera Blanca Mountain Range, the trails in this region could arguably be the most beautiful trail runs Peru has to offer (or in my bias opinion, that the world has to offer). We will travel overnight, aprox 8 hrs via first class buses (there are no flights to this destination) to arrive to Huaraz. These races are in high altitude, starting near 3,200m/10,500 ft, and require at least two days to acclimate—which we will opportunely use to travel around the area, and tour local destinations while eating healthy, relaxing, and preparing for the race. (4-5 days, due to the location and altitude acclimation requirements).
- Huarochiri and Lima Region The Huarochiri region of Lima, has a beautiful mountain range of the Andes, without the need to travel a long distance. All races within the Desafio Huarochiri series can be reached within a few hours’ car ride, and typically only require one-night stay (2night max, depending on altitude). This area is also unknown to tourists, you will see what local Andean life is really like without outside influence. Marcahuasi Ultra Trail is also in the high Huarochiri region of Lima, and encompasses running through a mystical, extraordinary energy-filled plateau. All Huarochiri races are beautiful weekend races, only 2-3 days max. Other Lima races include The North Face Endurance Challenge, just an hour south of Lima, in the Lurin Valley, famous for its vertical challenges, but without any altitude. Lastly, Lomas de Lachay race is only a few hours from Lima, and does include mountain trails along the run, but also incorporates desert, and jungle trail within the same race, so you will see this race in various categories. (2-3 days)
- Cusco Region– Cusco is famous for its history of being the center of the Incan Empire. The Andes Race is the only race we have organized in this region, and is often a favorite as well of local runners. Plus, it is easy to add a Machu Picchu visit on! (4 days)
Desert Races - the national deserts of Peru may be under visited and underrated, but absolutely gorgeous. Visit a coastal paradise, covered endless sand dunes and coastal beauty. Desert races are flat, and run over hard sand (most of the time). Marcona is a hidden gem, remote in the deep desert of Peru, 7 hours from Lima. But don’t worry, we take care of all the logistics, just get ready for the beach party after the race! Bring extra sun screen. (3 days)
Jungle Races – Everyone wants to visit the jungle, but have you ever considered racing through it? Hear the sounds of animals, trek or run through endless green forests, cross rivers and climb through layers of the rainforest. The jungle races are a totally new experience for most trail runners. The Amazon Race Forest requires a flight to Tarapoto, where we will spend a day touring before the race. Chanchamayo will include overnight high-end bus transportation both to and from Lima. Low altitude, but expect jungle/mountain terrain for both of these amazing races. Lomas de Lachay is included as well in the list, but only a part of the race is in jungle-like terrain, and the area around it is not Jungle, so if you are looking for a full jungle experience, select one of the two former races. (2-3 days)
Obstacle Course Races – Spartan Race is coming to Peru for the first time in 2020! This will be the third country in South America to hold a Spartan Race, and we are more than excited! Test your obstacle skills here as you spend the weekend in Lima, running 5k on historic UNISEC heritage site, challenging yourself through obstacles and conquering new goals. (2 days)
Lima City Races – Just planning to stay in Lima? Or more of a city marathon racer? Join us to race the Lima Life Marathon this year, around Lima City. Lima Races include all races that do not require overnight stay outside of Lima, so these are the only races that do not provide accommodations. We will meet and distribute race kits the night before the race, eat a healthy carb load, and meet and greet other racers. Transportation and post-race lunch and celebration will be included! (2 days).
